The Lami Steelers have been named as one of the inaugural clubs for the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL)’s new Women’s competition, the Marama Cup.

The competition was originally planned for 2021 however due to COVID-19 was unable to take place.

The new competition will run parallel to the Fiji Vodafone Cup competition and will feature at least four clubs, laying the foundations for the growth of Women’s Rugby League in the Pacific nation.

The last Women’s Rugby League matches played in the country where back in 2020 when both the USP Raiders and Vusu Raiders conducted competitive matches for Women in their districts, whilst the Fiji National Rugby League also coordinated a three match Women’s Origin series between Eastern State and Western State.

The Marama Cup will sit below the Fiji Origin Series.
