The Kimbe Dolphins are on their way to the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup Finals after the side won the West New Britain leg of the Papua New Guinea Off-Season competition.

The Dolphins defeated the Mosa Weevils 20 – 6 in the Challenge Final at Kimbe Oval to guarantee their spot in the next round of the tournament.

In the third place play-off, the Kimbe Marlins defeated the Hoskins Muruks 16 – 0.

The Kimbe based leg of the Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup only contained four teams, with each team playing two matches before the Finals.

Despite the Dolphins loosing to cross-town rivals, the Marlins, in the group stages, a big win over the Muruks allowed the team to qualify for the regional Final.

The Coca-Cola Ipatas Cup was formed by the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) and Governor Ipatas to provide opportunities for rural and village teams to compete in a national competition and showcase the talent available from those regions.

Starting in the Highlands, the competition has grown to incorporate teams from across the Papua New Guinea mainlands and across New Britain, with a record number of sides set to take part in 2021/22 and regions like New Ireland and AROB to take part for the first time ever.
