The Hohola Flies have claimed the 2021 Port Moresby Rugby Football League (POMRFL) Men’s Minor Premiership following a 14 – 10 win over ladder leaders, the Dobo Warriors, in the final round of the regular season.

Only the boot of Flies halfback, Pokapen Pes, could seperate the two teams as both recorded two tries a piece, with Pes’ conversions giving the Hohola a 12 – 10 lead at halftime, before kicking the only points of the second half just before fulltime.

Despite the loss, the Warriors finished outright second on seventeen premiership points, whilst the Brothers and Tarangau rounded out the top four. 2020 Grand Finalists, the Butterflies, failed to qualify for the Finals.

In the Women’s competition, the Paga Panthers claimed the minor premiership, whilst the Kone Storm took out the honour in the Under 20’s.

The competition Finals Series kicks off this weekend, with the top four teams to play off in the Qualifying Finals, whilst the bottom four will play off in Elimination Finals in the Men’s and Under 20’s competitions, will the Women’s competition will be a top six.
