After almost nine months, competitive Rugby League returned to the nation of India over the weekend when the Panthers successfully avenged their loss to the Jackals in the Kolkata Nines.
Taking place at the Maidan (Brigade Parade Ground), the tournament built on events held by Rugby League India in late 2020 and early 2021, with a record six local clubs taking part.
The previous Kolkata Nines, held in December 2020, was won by the Jackals in a 9 – 8 thriller.
Supported by the Australian High Commission in India, Deputy Consul General Daniel Sim was on hand to present the awards to the winners for the 2021 Kolkata Nines.
Rugby League India was established in early 2020 to help with the development of Rugby League across the nation. The Federation has established regional associations in West Bengal, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Jammu & Kashmir.
