Honours have been shared in the inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Cup after members from the organising committee and Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League declared the Final a ‘no-match’.
The two day tournament held at the University of Papua New Guinea featured seven teams from four of the leading Tertiary institutions in Papua New Guinea with the event part of the selection process for the Universities World Cup scheduled in 2022.
The Final, which was contested UPNG Pythons and University of Technology Spartans, was called off at halftime due to poor lighting, with the Pythons leading 4 – 0.
With teams and players traveling from across PNG, a rematch was deemed untenable due to the financials and logistics involved.
The seven participating teams came from the University of Papua New Guinea, PNG University of Technology, PNG University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and the University of Goroka.
