The high altitude capital of Colombia, Bogotá, has been named as host city for the 2021 Colombia Rugby League National Nines this November.

The National Nines Championship will run from November 13 for two days, and will feature teams from across the country including from the Antioquia and Cundinamarca regional leagues.

The tournament will be the first competitive fixture held in the South American nation after COVID-19 prevented the Colombia Rugby League from hosting its domestic and international competitions in 2020.

The Nines Championship will be one of a series of events planned by the Colombia Rugby League in the lead up to the 2022 South American Championship, which will be hosted in Jericó in south-west Antioquia, and feature national teams from Chile and Brazil.

Rugby League has been played in Colombia since 2014, with the Colombia Rugby League becoming an observer member of the Asia Pacific Rugby League and International Rugby League in 2020. Rugby League is played primarily in the Antioquia and Cundinamarca departments of the country, with the sport introduced to Magdalena in early 2020.
