Canterbury Rugby League has claimed first place in both the Boy’s Under 14s and Girl’s Under 13s South Island Championships played earlier this week in Invercargill, claiming both the Paddy Byrne and Sommer Te Kahu Trophies.

The regional tournament featured representative teams from the Otago, Canterbury, Southland and Aoraki districts in the Boy’s competition, and Canterbury, Southland and Otago in the Girl’s.

Canterbury dominated in both competitions, finishing undefeated in both. Southland finished second in the Boy’s competition, going down to Canterbury in the Final, whilst both Otago and Southland finished equal in the Girl’s competition.

Under 14s Boy’s:

Otago 4 – 48 Canterbury
Southland 24 – 8 Aoraki
Otago 28 – 12 Aoraki
Canterbury 46 – 0 Southland
Otago 20 – 22 Southland
Aoraki 4 – 56 Canterbury

Third Place Play-Off:
Otago 24 – 20 Aoraki

Grand Final:
Canterbury 48 – 0 Southland

Under 13s Girl’s:
Southland 0 – 42 Canterbury
Otago 4 – 46 Canterbury
